DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the next compelling talk in Paddington Society’s “Conversations” series of events. This talk by author Mark Skelsey leverages his research and experience as an author and journalist with a strong interest in urban affairs\, bringing a unique perspective and insights to current debates around development\, housing\, and heritage. \nMark’s book “Views To Die For” was published alongside the 50th anniversary of the disappearance and presumed murder of Kings Cross publisher Juanita Nielsen. It tells the incredible inside story of the urban warfare which changed Sydney forever. \nThe book reveals what Nielsen was fighting for and shows how the urban warfare leading to her death sparked significant societal and policy changes in areas such as heritage\, affordable housing\, planning consultation and police corruption. \nSome of these reforms are now the subject of heated debate as Sydney and Australia face housing affordability problems. \n\nAuthor Mark Skelsey in Victoria St Potts Point \nAbout the Presenter \nMark Skelsey is a Sydney-based writer and media and communications professional\, with a strong interest in urban affairs issues. \nHe is a former State Political Reporter\, and City Editor\, with the Daily Telegraph\, and a former Media Manager at the NSW Department of Planning. He’s spent ten years conducting interviews and original archival research for “Views to Die For”. \nHe has a Masters in Environmental Law from the University of Sydney (2010) and a Bachelor of Arts (Communications) from the University of Technology\, Sydney (1990). \n\n  \nThis event is supported by Woollahra Municipal Council. \nTickets\n$10 Members\n$15 Non-Members\nTicket price includes a glass of bubbles on arrival and nibbles. \nTickets essential and available until sold out. DESCRIPTION:Our highly anticipated Annual Dinner is always lots of fun and a great opportunity to meet your community. \nEnjoy a glass of bubbly on arrival\, a fabulous dinner and a compelling special guest presentation as we celebrate our unique community and recent achievements. \nJoin in the raffle for your chance to take home one of the selection of coveted prizes! \nSpecial Guest Speaker\nHarriet Price coordinating her wardrobe with Paddington terraces! \nCouncillor Harriet Price\, Woollahra Municipal Council\nCr Harriet Price has represented Paddington on Woollahra Municipal Council for the past nine years. A local resident of 21 years\, her connection to the area began over 50 years ago as a student at Union Street’s Peter Pan Pre School. \nHarriet is a fierce community advocate and has successfully led high-profile grassroots campaigns\, including to save the Four in Hand and Village Inn pubs. Harriet has also championed action against over-development\, including the recent SSD at 160 Oxford Street. \nShe was named the 2019 Sydney Electorate Woman of the Year for her leadership of the Glenmore Road Public School P&C\, community advocacy and as a role model for women in public office. \nHarriet holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of NSW\, a Master of International Relations and a Bachelor of Arts from Sydney University. She was admitted as a solicitor to the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1997. \nHer love for Paddington’s local cafes\, restaurants and fashion retailers are beautifully captured on her @PriceforPaddington Instagram. Many locals suspect that\, despite her many professional achievements\, her true talents lie in the rigorous town planning required to coordinate her daily wardrobe with the colourful doors of Paddington’s iconic terrace houses!. \nRaffle Prizes\nGet your raffle tickets on the night to enter the draw for a selection of prizes!
