SUMMARY:Conversations: Changing Paddington Landscape
DESCRIPTION:The Trumpalar Tree\, Trumper Reserve Paddington\, 2019Photo: Helen Armstrong \n\n\n\nThe ‘duckpond’ Trumper Reserve Paddington\, 2019Photo: Helen Armstrong \n\n\n\n\nWith Dr Helen Armstrong AM \nContinuing our immensely popular “Conversations” series\, this talk by Dr Helen Armstrong AM will explore the Changing Paddington Landscape\, drawing on and updating her chapter from the book “Paddington: A history”. \nHelen’s chapter titled “Changing Landscapes” includes the changes for First Nation People who lived in the area before the 1788 Colonisation and subsequent changes made by the settlers during the 19th and 20th centuries. \nReading the layers of landscapes over time is intriguing\, whether it is the millennia-long geological layers or the recent high-rise built layers. Despite extensive redevelopments\, subtle clues about former landscapes have persisted in Paddington. This talk will explore these clues and suggest ways to sustain Paddington’s intriguing landscape character. \nDr Helen Armstrong AM is Professor Emerita of Landscape Architecture\, School of Design and Built Environment\, Queensland University of Technology. She has been a practising landscape architect and academic in landscape architecture since the late 1970s. She has undertaken a number of heritage research projects related to cultural landscapes\, including Australian landscape history\, migrant place-making and the contribution of cultural pluralism to Australian cultural heritage. \nThis event is supported by Woollahra Council. \nTickets\n$10 Members\n$15 Non-Members\nTicket price includes a glass of bubbles on arrival and nibbles. \n\nTo purchase Member tickets\, please log in to your membership account or join The Paddington Society now\, then refresh this event page to purchase your ticket(s). \n\n	\n\n \n \n \n\n \n\n \n\n\n\n	Tickets\n\n \n	\n	\n The numbers below include tickets for this event already in your cart.
